Have them do something they love and try several perspectives. Shoot from up high, down low, from behind and get in close on the details.

Catch them on their skateboard, with their guitar, sidewalk chalk, basketball, tea party, etc.

Olympus camera has “in camera art filters”

Photoshop what??? The new Olympus e-620 digital SLR has in camera art filers that allow special effects in the camera!

From the Olympus Website:

Pale and Light Color brings soft, flat light and pastel coloring to photographs. Grainy Film produces a gritty high-contrast black-and-white film look. Light Tone brightens the image and its darker areas, providing more detail. Pin Hole darkens the outer edges of a photograph, therefore enhancing the subject in the center and bringing the photograph to life.

I haven’t had the opportunity to test out this camera, but it sounds like an exciting way to incorporate special effects without the use of computer programs.

Spring break and summer are quickly approaching! Here’s a fun craft to keep your little ones entertained!

Step one: Take an image and open it in Photoshop.

Step Two: Duplicate the layer

Step Three: Go to Filter -> Sketch -> and then Photocopy. From there you can adjust your exposure in the layer pallete to eliminate some of the background “grayness”.

Now print and let your child color themsleves or their siblings! Happy Coloring!

A good go to lens for SLR’s.

There is a reason the call it the nifty fifty. If you have invested in a digital SLR camera and currently only use the kit lens, you should check out the 50mm f1.4. Depending on the brand of your camera, Canon and Nikon both make a great 50mm lens.

If you ask most professional photographers they will all have a 50mm prime lens in their bag! It’s great in low light and the focal length is great for portraits. It’s fast enough for sports and is bright enough for indoor sports. It is reasonably priced from $300 – $400 depending on the store and the brand of lens. If that is out of your price range, check out the 50mm f1.8 which can be purchased for less than $100!
